Cambodian Investor Seeks Legal Action Against Chairman Over Alleged Fraud and Embezzlement
(Phnom Penh) — An investor in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has submitted formal appeals to Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice, requesting intervention in a case against the company’s Chairman, Yamada Taihei. The appeals allege that Yamada, a Japanese national, engaged in large-scale financial misconduct, including embezzlement and breach of trust.
The complaints claim that Yamada abused his role as Chairman to inflate property purchase prices, resulting in the misappropriation of an estimated USD 4 million. The investor also alleges that he orchestrated fictitious business transactions and loans exceeding USD 7 million, using the names of well-known corporations and forging documents to conceal his actions.
Reports suggest that some of the misappropriated funds were transferred to accounts abroad, including one held by Yamada’s spouse. Investigators believe he also controlled multiple shell companies in Cambodia, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore, appointing nominees as representatives while retaining full control over financial operations.
Authorities in Cambodia have already filed at least two criminal cases against Yamada and his associates, freezing assets and bank accounts. Additional investigations are ongoing, and related inquiries are reportedly underway in other countries, including China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the United States.
The investor’s appeals to the Ministry emphasize the need for fair and thorough investigations to ensure justice. The letters also express concern over possible interference from influential individuals, which could hinder the investigation, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
